Arguably, the greatest place for tapers to record is at outdoor music festivals.  Why?  Most festivals provide twelve plus hours of music a day for three plus days.  A tapers dream.  We all get to sit around and discuss which bands are worth the cost of a blank, etc.  And at the end of a great weekend we go home with ten to twenty hours of live music.

However, one factor that weighs heavily in festival taping is good ole' Mother Nature.

If you've done any amount of festival taping or are considering jumping into this mix, you have and/or will undoubtedly encounter weather of some sort - blazing heat in the daytime, cold nights, rain, etc.  However, the worst weather condition going for a taper is, of course, WIND.  I have countless hours of what could be considered classic live recordings - many, if not most, of which are laced with the low rumble of wind.  Foam windscreens and bass roll off help to a degree.  But they in no way cure the problem.  The only proven solution to eliminating wind from outdoor recordings is by employing the use of "blimps".

We have decided to offer Lightwave Audio products because of the excellence that goes into crafting their windscreen solutions.  Additionally, Lightwave offers a varied array of solutions for the many different mics we tapers are using in the field.  Bottom line - blimps by design, all but eliminate annoying wind on live recordings.  They are not cheap, but for discerning tapers looking to produce the best possible live recordings, blimps are a must for outdoor recording.
